New Minister meets with Department of Culture in Seychelles

The newly-appointed Minister for Tourism and Culture, Alain St.Ange, has commenced his duties in the Department of Culture with a visit of the departments and sections. Unknown to the Culture Department, Minister St.Ange has dedicated a whole day to meet with the management and staff, and to be briefed on their respective duties.

From the Human Resource and Administration section at the National Library to the Archive and Heritage Foundation at La Bastille, Minister St.Ange met with all of the 133 workers of the Department of Culture and the twenty staff from the National Arts Council (NAC) and the Heritage Foundation.

Speaking with the press, Minister St.Ange has outlined the importance of this visit saying that “it is vital for him as a Minister to be formally introduced with his cohort of employees, understand what their work entails, and how each section of the Department of Culture operates.”

Minister St.Ange said that “Together with Principle Secretary Benjamine Rose and their Management Team of the Culture Department, they will be in a better position after this visit to come out with plans and targets for this department.”

Mr. St.Ange had placed a lot of emphasis on the importance of the role of employees to help move forward either a department or section. He said that “good understanding of team work and team building are critical for a ministry’s success.”

The Minister of Tourism and Culture said that his ministry is in the process of filing a general plan of action for this department and it will be used as a guideline to bring this department forward and unlock all the cultural potentials. He was accompanied by Principle Secretary for Culture, Benjamine Rose; CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board, Elsia Grandcourt; and Raymonde Onezime, the Minister’s Special Advisor for Culture.
