Alaska Airlines Pilot pleads for help declaring an emergency.

Shortly after taking off in Portland on Friday night, an Alaska Airlines flight heading to Ontario, Southern California had to reverse course and perform an emergency landing due to a hole in the plane’s side.

For 171 passengers and 6 crew members aboard Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 it will be an emergency they will never forget.

This emergency happened on a troubled plane model when Boeing was accused of putting profit over safety after two major crashes, one on a B737 Max in Ethiopia.

Around 5 p.m., Flight 1282 departed from Portland International Airport in Oregon. During ascent, there were reports on social media indicating that a window and a section of the plane’s wall had blown out.

Alaska Airlines referred to the occurrence as an incident saying in its official statement:

Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 from Portland, Oregon to Ontario, California, experienced an incident this evening soon after departure. The aircraft landed safely back at Portland International Airport with 171 guests and 6 crew members. The safety of our guests and employees is always our primary priority, so while this type of occurrence is rare, our flight crew was trained and prepared to safely manage the situation. We are investigating what happened and will share more information as it becomes available.

Alaska Airlines Official Press release on a life threatening emergency.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident.

COMMENT:

Boeing gets a kick in the teeth over Alaska Airlines’ sudden decompression on a brand new 737MAX just as Airbus gets a brand boost over the JAL A350 100% survival outcome.

Boeing may be in trouble once more over the 737 MAX, while Airbus receives positive attention for the successful survival of all passengers on the JAL A350 aircraft.
