Kenya Airways boosts regional services

NAIROBI, Kenya – National flag carrier Kenya Airways has added a Boeing 737-300 to its domestic and short haul regional service lineup. The equipment registered as 5Y-KYM has been leased from KLM. It is initially scheduled on the Nairobi-Mombasa route. Kenya Airways Chief Operating Officer, Bram Steller, explained, “Due to high demand on these routes, our passengers will use the new aircraft with the temporary blue outside body colors. I wish to reassure them that within the next two months the aircraft will spot the official KQ branding and colors.”

According to Steller, acquiring the plane was in line with the Kenya Airways strategy to increase the level of efficiency on domestic and regional services and offer passengers more choices of flying times and frequency. This exciting development comes in the wake of Kenya Airways ordering two Embraer 190 aircraft which are expected to be delivered early next year and the recent delivery of two additional planes which brought the fleet to a total of 28 aircraft.

Steller stressed that the airline was pursuing a fleet expansion plan that will support its route network growth. “With Nairobi’s fast growth as the East and Central African aviation hub, we expect a significant increase in demand for Kenya Airways to open up more new cities and increase frequencies on the existing ones with more flights.”
