HONOLULU, HI – On Monday, November 15, 2010, associates from Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa donated approximately 350 lbs. of recyclable cans, plastic, and glass bottles to Jefferson Elementary School in honor of America Recycles Day. The hotel’s Green Team also encouraged staff to take a pledge to improve their own recycling practices as a part of the national day dedicated to recycling.
“We take pleasure in creating a better tomorrow for the environment and for our local keiki. America Recycles Day gave us an opportunity to do both,” said David Lewin, general manager at Hyatt Regency Waikiki.
School recycling bins generate an average of US$250 per month. Staff from Hyatt Regency Waikiki collected thirty-five bags of aluminum cans, plastic, and glass bottles during normal hotel hours of operation. All employees were also invited to visit the America Recycles Day website and take a pledge to dedicate themselves to learning what can or cannot be recycled, practicing recycling at work, safely recycling e-waste, and telling five friends about how easy recycling can be.
