Micronesia islands gather for yearly cultural showcase.

The Guam Visitors Bureau is pleased to announce the 36th annual celebration of the Guam Micronesia Island Fair (GMIF) on June 1 & 2, 2024, at Governor Joseph Flores Memorial Beach Park (Ypao). The events will take place from 12:00 noon to 9:00 pm each day and feature food, crafts, dance, and live entertainment unique to the islands of Micronesia.

The theme of this year’s GMIF “Regenerating Micronesia,” which supports the 13th Festival of Pacific Arts & Culture (FestPac) theme “Regenerating Oceania,” aims to reinforce the strong ties between the islands of Guam, Northern Marianas Islands, Federated States of Micronesia – Chuuk, Pohnpei, Kosrae and Yap – Marshall Islands, and Palau.

Cultural masters, artisans, and vendors will be participating in the event, showcasing their local products and talents. Food and drinks will be available for purchase with the availability of food trucks and activities for the kids. Live performances from various cultural dance groups and popular entertainers such as Parker Yobei, Kendall Titiml, KPV, Pacific Cool, and Mix Plate will be taking the stage this weekend with special performances in keeping with the island-style theme. Free public shuttle service will be available from Freedom Park to Ypao Beach on both Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 pm – 10:00 pm.

The Guam Micronesia Island Fair is a GVB signature event that has celebrated the vibrant cultures of Micronesia for more than 35 years.

“It is the coming together of all of our sister islands to share and celebrate our cultural heritage, which shows how very unique each of our islands are, yet how united we are as one people, Un Micronesia (One Micronesia),” explains GVB President & CEO Carl T.C. Gutierrez.

GMIF 2024’s Opening Ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, June 1 at 4:00 pm. A detailed program and event schedule will be posted soon on the Guam Visitors Bureau website. GMIF is a family-friendly, free event. All are invited to attend and experience firsthand the customs and traditions of Micronesia during this two-day festival. GVB gives special thanks to their community partners for their valuable support.
