Lima, Peru – think of 600 different species of fish, to be precise. And no, they’re not dead or for sale or anything — they live in South America’s biggest fish tank.
Peruvian mall is upping the ante on competitors by giving potential shoppers a novel reason to step through its doors: fish.
According to El Comercio, the MegaPlaza mall in the Independencia district of Lima has installed a cylindrical aquarium that’s almost five meters tall. The aquarium is reportedly worth around US$500,000, and has been filled with species and components from around the world. El Comercio reports that the fish tank holds white sand brought in specially from the Bahamas, fish from the Philippines, and rocks from the Galapagos Islands, among other things.
The aquarium has been populated by 600 different species of marine critters, including the blacktip reef shark, yellow tang, clownfish, and yellowtail damselfish.
MegaPlaza is located at Av. Alfredo Mendiola 3698 in Independencia. There is no cost to visit the fish tank.
