The latest denied boarding rankings by the US Department of Transportation show United Airlines isn’t the worst airline for bumping passengers.
It just had the misfortune of having a video taken of a passenger being bloodied and dragged off the plane, because he refused to leave after being selected for forced bumping from the flight.
Other airlines also have a history of bumping passengers against their wishes, and the Federal Aviation Administration recently fined four major airlines for failing to accurately inform passengers about how much compensation they are entitled to when they are bumped.
United was among them, along with American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and Alaska Airlines.
A report from the US Department of Transportation examines airline passengers who faced involuntary denied boarding from October to December of 2016. The ranking is from No. 12 (the best, or lowest rate of denied boardings) to No. 1 (the worst, or highest rate of denied boardings).
