Poland‘s expansive Solidarity Transport Hub (CPK) project, featuring a new rail route and an airport between Warsaw and Łódź, aims to become one of Europe’s largest transport hubs.
However, amid its grand vision, criticism has mounted.
Initially conceived pre-pandemic, the project faced scathing remarks from Ryanair CEO Michal O’Leary, who deemed it “incomprehensible” and criticized it as a senseless endeavor. Despite billions in taxpayer funds invested, O’Leary suggested the potential abandonment of the project, branding the new airport as unnecessary, ill-timed, and in the wrong location.
The government defends the project, citing economic viability post-pandemic, although Warsaw already has two functioning airports.
The dispute over the necessity and prudence of the CPK project persists amid differing perspectives from stakeholders.
