ALAPPUZHA, India – Alappuzha south police on Monday arrested two youths for attacking tourists on Saturday night.

Police said Rameez Noushad (21), who hails from civil station ward in Alappuzha municipality and Azarudheen Shanawas (22) of district court ward, attacked a six-member tourist team from England.

The attack is said to have taken place when the tourists interfered when the youths misbehaved with some women visitors from Spain at Alappuzha beach. Henry William and Jasper Canaan of England were injured in the attack. William suffered a spinal fracture while Canaan sustained an injury on his head.

The accused reportedly tried to grab the hands of the Spanish women while they stood near a beer parlour on the beach. The women approached the Englishmen for help, who in turn asked the youths to leave.

The youths, however, followed William, Canaan and their friends and attacked them at Convent Square using wooden planks.

The youths were arrested following a complaint filed by the men, and were produced before the Ambalappuzha chief judicial magistrate. The duo has been remanded in judicial custody for two weeks. Search is on for the remaining suspects.
