LOS ANGELES, California – Green Globe Elite Member, the Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo, has continued to grow as a beacon amongst Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts, managed by the John Keells Group, Sri Lanka’s premier conglomerate. The hotel’s continued efforts demonstrate its sustainability commitments, in keeping up with the John Keells Leisure Sector pledge “I Will Be Green.”

Commemorating Earth Day on April 22, the Learning and Development Department at Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo recently initiated a tree planting awareness program and staged an environmental themed competition for all staff members.

The program was conducted to educate and raise awareness among Cinnamon Lakeside associates. Two Ahala (or Golden Shower) saplings were planted on the hotel premises by General Manager, Mr. Denis Gruhier and Chief Engineer, Mr. Hulangamuwa, along with several heads of departments and team members. A poster campaign on saving and recycling paper rounded up the event.

“Recycling waste is a key part of the hotel’s sustainability drive with cardboard, glass, plastic, aluminum, waste papers and ‘hard to recycle’ products,” commented General Manager Denis Gruhier. “We firmly believe that creating awareness is the key to strengthening green initiatives.”

As a responsible corporate citizen, Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo considers being green to be of utmost importance. Best practices include rain water harvesting, towel and linen reuse programs, replacing CFL bulbs with LED’s, regular training sessions and competition programs for associates, along with a wealth of CSR projects.

“The future of Sri Lanka’s hospitality industry depends on the efforts to protect and preserve its resources, and attracting tourists, who are increasingly more aware of the impact of their travels,” added Mr. Denis Gruhier.
