In 2018 and 2019, two accidents involving Boeing 737 MAX planes led to the tragic loss of nearly 350 lives. Following these incidents, the aerospace company took responsibility for a design flaw that contributed to the accidents, leading to the grounding of all 737 MAX aircraft

According to the latest media reports, a new possible Boeing whistleblower has stepped up, alleging that he was terminated for reporting some safety problems he allegedly witnessed during Boeing aircraft production.

A new complaint was filed yesterday by attorneys for Richard Cuevas, a mechanic at Strom, a subcontractor for Boeing’s partner, who claims that he has lost his job for reporting a concern about the unsafe construction of the 787 Dreamliner aircraft to his superiors.

According to the reports, Mr. Cuevas complained last year to Boeing and Spirit Aerosystems regarding inferior production and servicing procedures that he had observed.

Mr. Cuevas alleges that he observed incorrect drilling of holes in the nose sections of the Dreamliner aircraft at Boeing’s facility in 2023. He asserts that these gaps could jeopardize the power and air pressure of the planes, posing a significant safety hazard for the crew and the customers, and could result in a catastrophic event.

As a result of his action, he was terminated from his position merely soon after filing his report, the complaint claims.

Boeing has faced heightened scrutiny following an incident in January where a door ripped off one of their jets during an Alaska Airlines flight, resulting in a significant hole in the fuselage.

Several whistleblowers have made claims in the past few years regarding significant production problems with the 737 Max, the 787 Dreamliner, and the 777. In response to these allegations, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has initiated multiple investigations into Boeing. As part of their scrutiny, the regulator temporarily suspended the delivery of new Dreamliners in 2021 to thoroughly examine concerns related to quality control.

In response to new allegations, Boeing issued a statement claiming that it had examined Mr. Cuevas’ claims and determined that the perforations did not present a safety issue for the aircraft.

According to some reports, the United States Department of Justice is currently contemplating pursuing criminal charges against the US aerospace giant due to its quality and safety shortcomings.
