American Airlines has officially committed to purchasing 85 more A321neo aircraft, bringing their total order of this aircraft model to 219.

American’s CEO, Robert Isom, stated that they have made significant investments in the last ten years to update and streamline their fleet, making it the largest and most modern among US network carriers. Isom also mentioned that these new orders will further enhance their fleet with more advanced and fuel-efficient aircraft, allowing them to maintain their exceptional network and achieve unparalleled operational reliability for their customers.

The ongoing commitment to the A321neo exemplifies the remarkable worth of the most adaptable and proficient narrow-body aircraft in the world, stated Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, EVP Sales, Commercial Aircraft, Airbus. Over the course of nearly twenty years, American Airlines has successfully expanded its domestic and short-haul international operations and delivered an outstanding travel experience for both passengers and crew members, utilizing the A320 Family of airplanes, some of which were manufactured in Mobile, Alabama, United States.

In February 2019, American Airlines received its inaugural A321neo, and as of January 31, 2024, a total of 70 of these aircraft have been delivered. As the leading global operator of A320 Family planes, American Airlines also holds the distinction of being the largest operator of A321 aircraft (both CEO and NEO versions). Additionally, the airline stands as the foremost customer for the A321neo in North America.

The A321neo, which is part of Airbus’ A320neo Family, provides exceptional range and performance. With the integration of advanced engines and Sharklets, the A321neo achieves a 50% reduction in noise, over 20% savings in fuel consumption, and decreased CO₂ emissions compared to older narrow-body aircraft. Additionally, it offers the most spacious cabin among single-aisle aircraft. Over 6,100 A321neos have been ordered by more than 90 customers worldwide.
