TAIPEI, Taiwan – Tainan and Taiyen Biotech Co. have teamed up to encourage tourists from Hong Kong to visit the southern Taiwan city through a promotion centered on beauty products.

Taiyen, the former state-run salt monopoly that has diversified into beauty products since being privatized in 2003, is giving away 1,000 facial masks to people flying into the southern Taiwan city from Hong Kong.

The campaign started on Jan. 31 — the first day of the Year of the Horse.

According to the Tainan City government, daily nonstop flights between Tainan and Hong Kong and a series of follow-up activities will be launched on March 30 to encourage Hong Kongers to see Tainan as their gateway to Taiwan and a must-see destination.

Taiwan’s biggest carrier, China Airlines, currently operates three nonstop flights a week between the two destinations.
