In their drive to get the Seychelles authorities to better understand the super yacht business, Hunt Deltel & Co Ltd. and Speedy’s Yacht Management joined forces to present this niche market and its benefits to Seychelles. On March 20, 2016 Hunt Deltel & Co Ltd. and Speedy’s Yacht Management invited Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, and PS Anne Lafortune from the Department of Tourism, Colonel Andre Ciseau from the Seychelles Ports Authority, and Captain Valmont from the Seychelles Maritime Safety Administration to join them on a short cruise onboard the super yacht, the Silver Angel.

“The purpose of the cruise was to familiarize the authorities with the industry and the benefits it offers to the Seychelles economy, notably the high per capita expenditure,” said a representative of Hunt Deltel Co Ltd.

Christophe Hoareau, the CEO of Hunt Deltel Co Ltd., took the opportunity of the cruise to do a PowerPoint presentation and then to discuss possible amendments to legislations which may improve Seychelles’ competitiveness in the industry, and the improvements in the facilities required. “Historically, an average of a dozen such vessels visit Seychelles annually, however, it is hoped to double this figure. The Eden Island Marina today offers world-class facilities to suit the expectations of this niche market and can berth vessels of up to 126 meters in length,” said Mr. Hoareau.

On his part, Minister Alain St.Ange said that it was interesting to listen to those involved in the super yacht business. “It is very clear that more can be done to attract more of that business to our shores. We understand that there are only some 4,500 such vessels in the world that are registered for charter, and we appreciate that Seychelles remains an ideal destination to have such vessels, especially during the European winter periods. As facilitators for the private sector, we shall work with those involved to see how we can help grow that business,” said Minister St.Ange.

Also onboard was Mike King-Harman, a Director of Hunt Deltel Co Ltd.; Gonzagues and Christian Larue of Speedy’s Yacht Management; Isabelle Adrienne, the PR & Marketing Executive at Hunt Deltel & Co Ltd.; and other officials from both Hunt Deltel Co Ltd. and Speedy’s Yacht Management. A second presentation has since been done to Minister Jean Paul Adam and his team at the Department of Finance.
