New variables on US outbound travelers

A new questionnaire was fielded in 2012 which provided additional passenger attributes. With the release of the 2014 data, year-over-year comparisons are enhanced.

A new questionnaire was fielded in 2012 which provided additional passenger attributes. With the release of the 2014 data, year-over-year comparisons are enhanced. Overall, there are 40 variables available on the US outbound travelers.

The US resident outbound market totaled 68.1 million in 2014, up 11 percent from 2013. Travel to overseas regions (30.8 million) increased six percent, to Canada (11.5 million) up less than one percent and travel to Mexico (25.9 million), the largest outbound market, was up 24 percent.

The top five overseas destination countries visited by US residents in 2014 were: the United Kingdom (2.8 million), the Dominican Republic (2.7 million), France (2.1 million), Italy (1.9 million) and Germany (1.9 million). Seven of the top 10 overseas destinations visited by US travelers posted increases in 2014 compared to the previous year.
