Qatar Airways Cargo, the world’s fifth largest cargo carrier, led aviation discussions at the Arab-German Business Forum on June 9, 2015 at The Ritz Carlton, Berlin.

Qatar Airways’ Chief Officer Cargo, Mr. Ulrich Ogiermann, was invited as a guest speaker to address attendees on the subject of air logistics as a catalyst for growth. The event was held under the patronage of the German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, H.E. Sigmar Gabriel, and was organised in cooperation with the General Union of Arab Chambers of Commerce (GUCCIAAC), the League of Arab States and the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK).

Mr. Ulrich Ogiermann, Qatar Airways Chief Officer Cargo said: “Qatar Airways Cargo launched services to Germany in 1998 and serves three cities, Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich from our Doha hub. We continue to grow in the market despite challenges to gain more traffic rights, and this year we achieved a growth record with traffic 48 per cent above last year.

“There is a positive history of mutual investment between Qatar and Germany. Over recent years both the political and the economic relationship between Germany and Qatar has been deepened by increasing bilateral trade and we hope this is further extended to the aviation sector. Qatar Airways Cargo stands ready to further invest in German jobs and German infrastructure.”

More than 600 leading experts and decision-makers from business, politics and science attended the conference, which presented important networking opportunities for new and existing businesses in both regions.

The forum addressed current and prospective Arab-German cooperation in the fields of logistics, infrastructure, security technologies, industrialisation, free zones, financial services, engineering, procurement, construction and housing projects, and the role of women in business.

Qatar Airways has operated daily dedicated B777 Freighters to Frankfurt since 2007. In addition, Qatar Airways Cargo operates a trucking network to 13 other cities in Germany, transporting over 1,100 tonnes of cargo across Germany’s borders every month, and the volumes continue to grow rapidly.

Qatar Airways will launch the A350 XWB to Munich on 1 October, delivering double-daily flights to the city alongside the existing Boeing 787 Dreamliner service. From 1 November the second daily flight to Munich will also be operated with the A350 XWB.

Qatar Airways Cargo serves more than 40 exclusive freighter destinations worldwide via its Doha hub and also delivers freight to 146 key business and leisure destinations globally on 158 aircraft. Since January 2015, Qatar Airways Cargo has also added freighter operations to Basel, Ahmedabad and Los Angeles.
