LONDON, UK (eTN) – The best presentation of the World Travel Market 2014 was the stunning food display as a unique art work and creative copy of Dubai’s skyline made with food which represents Dubai city’s growing profile as a gastronomy destination. The food skyline was created by the young UK-based food artist, Paul Baker.

It was fascinating to watch Paul cutting sails for the Dubai Creek Golf Course and adding parsley to the road. While he was cutting I asked him if he had been to Dubai.

No, he has never been to Dubai, he said. That made it difficult, but he managed by searching image on the Internet.

The massive food work of art then needed 6 weeks of tough brainstorming for the food architecture and design of the piece.

There it was – the Burij Khalifa built from a yellow corncob, a cruise ship made of toasted bread, the new shopping mall made from cucumber, the World Trade Center made out of milk and white chocolate, Dubai’s famous “The Palm” baked in the oven, while croissants formed the metro of Dubai. For the finalization, he needed one week to put it all together with colleagues, he said.

On the centerpiece, engraved and written in English and Arabic with toasted almonds on a rice bed, it said: “Welcome to The Dubai Food Festival.”

This stunning installation of Dubai’s famous skyline and iconic buildings made entirely out of food was a sheer masterpiece of good ideas.

But it also was a great temptation to want take a bite out of the Trade Center made of white and milk chocolate.

Paul Baker said the greatest challenge was that the entire food architecture of the edible Dubai skyline will not go bad, as it needs to stay in shape when it is being shipped to Dubai, and remain that way when it is on display during the Dubai Food Festival, which takes place from February 6-28, 2015.
