LOS ANGELES, California – Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel Accra, the largest 5 star hotel in Ghana, is located in the heart of Accra’s city center. The hotel was recently recertified by Green Globe and achieved an impressive compliance score of 80%.

Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel Accra Health & Safety Manager, Akoi Amoah-Larbi said, “We are very pleased having achieved the recent certification which was not achieved by the efforts of individuals but rather via great teamwork. The team has already commenced work on the remaining outstanding issues and we are all very excited to move forward.”

The success of the hotel’s sustainability efforts lies in its integration into its overall business strategy, operating processes and quality standards. As part of its sustainable objective to provide training to staff, the hotel initiated more than 30 programs that resulted in an improvement of 8% overall. This included on the job training for associates regarding waste management and recycling. In addition, staff were and continue to be educated about best practice for monitoring waste management. Another successful achievement is that food and organic waste is no longer sent to landfill, but recycled into compost for gardens.

Environmental awareness has been raised through the hotel’s membership with Ghana Wildlife Society. Through its association with the Society, Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel Accra now sponsors endangered species with a public awareness campaign and investment in scientific research.

As part of its corporate social responsibility the hotel recently organized its ‘Toys for Joy’ campaign where a donation of toys was presented to the Princess Louis Children’s Hospital. Furthermore, local community events are featured in a newsletter recently created by the hotel. What’s Up Accra provides news on the city’s history, sustainability, wildlife and other general information of interest to guests.
