Visit Azores reports a surge in UK visitor numbers to the destination from September to December 2017, with the number of UK tourists increasing by 14.6% in comparison to the same period in 2016. Azores has also seen a rise in length of stays with overnight UK visitors up 17.4% for room nights.

Azores figures show the number of overnight stays by UK tourists totaling 14,688, whilst the number of visitors has grown to 4,528.

The news comes as the destination celebrated winning ‘Best of Atlantic’ award at The World’s Top 10 Sustainable Destinations Awards at ITB Berlin on 7th March 2018.

The new seasonal Ryanair route from Manchester Airport to Ponta Delgada, the capital of São Miguel, launching June to October 2018, is expected to further contribute to the rise in UK visitor arrivals as Azores becomes even more accessible to Brits.

The Azores Tourism Board commented: “It is an incredibly exciting time for Azores and the rise in visitor numbers from the UK is testament to our efforts in promoting the destination to this key market. We are thrilled to see a growing interest in our country. Azores offers an incredible mix of experiences for all ages, including unique nature and wildlife activities, rich cultural offerings and unexpected food delicacies.”
