Jordan’s state airline has suspended four weekly flights to Najaf in central Iraq due to the “security situation” at its local airport, the company said.

Najaf Airport was earlier occupied by several hundred anti-government protesters, who disrupted traffic.

Mass protests have been raging in southern Iraq for several days, with people occupying government buildings and blocking ports.

They are rallying against unemployment, corruption, and the poor state of public services such as electricity and water.
