Hawaiian Airlines passenger traffic decreased more than 6 percent in May, according to statistics releases on Friday
Hawaiian said its statistics for May 2008 reflected the immediate impact of a surge in passengers after Aloha Airlines and ATA Airlines collapsed.
Hawaiian’s load factor for May declined 2.4 percentage points to 83.3 percent, as compared with the same month in 2008.
The airline, saw the number of passengers it carried in May decrease 6.3 percent from 740,865 to 694,543.
For the year to date through May, Hawaiian’s load factor — meaning the percentage of seating capacity that is utilized — was down 3.1 percentage points to 82.7 percent, while the total number of passengers carried grew 5.6 percent to 3.3 million.
Hawaiian Airlines is Hawaii’s second-largest provider of passenger air service between the U.S. Mainland and Hawaii. It also flies from Honolulu to the Philippines, Australia, American Samoa and Tahiti.
