The development of helipads further enhances Kumarakam’s infrastructure for emergencies and tourism alike.

The recently inaugurated helicopter tourism project in Kumarakam has become a major attraction for tourists during the Christmas holiday season. Tourists continue to flock to the region, boosting the tourism sector.

Currently, resorts independently operate helicopter tourism packages, with two luxury resorts, Suri Resort and Kumarakam Lake Resort, already equipped with helipads. Other resorts are also gearing up to build helipads on their properties.

Despite the state budget’s recommendation for a helipad in Kumarakam, it has not materialized. However, there are expectations that Kumarakam will further solidify its position on the tourism map of Kerala with the launch of the latest helicopter tourism project announced by the state government in collaboration with private parties.

Tourists can now reach Kumarakam from Cochin International Airport in under 25 minutes, with helicopters accommodating 5 to 10 passengers. The fares for this service start at Rs 1.50 lakh, varying based on the helicopter’s size and seating capacity.

Helicopter tourism provides a unique opportunity for tourists to enjoy breathtaking aerial views of the backwaters and lush greenery of Alappuzha and Kumarakam.

Resorts are optimistic that reduced travel time to Kumarakam will lead to increased bookings.

Additionally, the helipads can serve dual purposes, supporting rescue operations during natural calamities such as floods. The development of helipads further enhances Kumarakam’s infrastructure for emergencies and tourism alike.

Kumarakom, situated near Kottayam in Kerala, India, is renowned for its backwater tourism against the scenic backdrop of Vembanad Lake, the state’s largest lake. In January 2023, the New York Times highlighted Kerala as one of the 52 must-see tourist destinations worldwide, giving special recognition to Kumarakom for its exceptional backwater tourism.
