The priciest destination for renting a car in the United States this summer can be found in Alaska, according to a survey conducted by Cheapcarrental.com.

The survey compared rental car rates at 100 U.S. airports during the period from June to August 2024. For each destination, prices at the leading rental companies located at the airport terminal or official rental center were recorded.

With an average rate of $187 per day for the most affordable rental car, Anchorage’s Ted Stevens Airport leads the rankings. Second most expensive is Montana’s Bozeman Yellowstone Airport, where visitors should find a rental car for an average of $165 per day.

Baltimore completes the podium with a daily rate of $134 for the least expensive car. Overall, car rental rates at Baltimore Washington International Airport are up 47% compared with 2023 – the biggest increase of all destinations analyzed by the survey.

Also significantly more expensive compared with last year are rental rates in Boston and Portland (Maine) – up 37% and 42%, respectively. However, on average across all the US 100 airports considered by the survey, rates have increased by just 3% compared with 2023.
