The “Best Jobs in the World” by Tourism Australia is part of a major international tailor-made marketing strategy to promote tourism opportunities offered by the program, Australian Working Holiday Maker (WHM) valid in all its states.
Among the five Italians who have made the finals, two of them in particular – Valerio Cozzi and Giovanna Cugnetto – are qualified among the 150 candidates selected out of 70,479 applications from 35 countries.
Valerio and Giovanna, still in the running for the 6 dream jobs, are vying for the “Keeper of Kangaroo Island” job offered by the State of South Australia, the iconic island located on the south coast, a short distance from the capital city of Adelaide. Kangaroo Island is a natural paradise, a zoo without fences, where animals and nature are the protagonists. This is the environment that will welcome the one (he or she) that will be selected to work for 6 months on the island as the keeper of such beauty and uniqueness.
During the 5 weeks following the successful contest launched on March 5, the “Keeper of Kangaroo Island” job was ranked as the top job to be had. Then, (surprise) the “Fun Specialist” job of NSW took over, albeit just slightly (20.2 versus 19.8). Up until April 10, Italy has maintained the third position along the period of the promotion/competition.
Ms. Eva Sellers, Regional General Manager of Tourism Australia for Continental Europe, declared her satisfaction for the visibility and participation obtained, and she appreciated Italy’s response to this international competition. She is pleased with the outstanding quality of the applications, and said: “It’s really exciting to see 5 Italians selected for the final stages.”
The 150 selected candidates now have 2 weeks’ time to collect and present testimonials in support of their application, and, based on these tests, the judges will shortlist 3 more candidates for each job. Followed by the selection of the final shortlist of 6 winners, one from each State, the winning names will be announced June 21, 2013.
Many young applicants who have not made it into the final selection of this contest should be aware that there are many opportunities that Australia can offer thanks to the Working Holiday Visa. Young people, up to 30 years of age, can apply for this visa which is valid for one year and renewable for another year, allowing them to work, study, and travel in South Australia as in other states of the country.
In this last year, 9,600 Working Holiday Visas were released, an increase of 49.3% vs. 2011.
