Strong 7.4 earthquake rocks Guatemala

(eTN) – According to the US Geological Survey’s National Earthquake Information Center, a 7.4 quake struck off the Pacific Coast of Guatemala on November 7, 2012 at 1635 UTC.

(eTN) – According to the US Geological Survey’s National Earthquake Information Center, a 7.4 quake struck off the Pacific Coast of Guatemala on November 7, 2012 at 1635 UTC.

The earthquake was located at a depth of 41 kilometers nearest to Retalheleu in Guatemala, 56 kilometers from the quake’s center. The strong earthquake shook buildings in Guatemala City, the capital, as well as Mexico City and El Salvador. It has been reported that people were fleeing from building in these areas.

In a brief report from San Marcos it was learned that a school and some houses had collapsed.

The US Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has not issued any watches or warnings, but is tracking the possibility of a local tsunami within a 100-200 mile radius of the quake’s center.
