Kauai County Ocean Safety officials closed Keoneloa Bay to swimming after a shark attacked a tourist.

The shark bit a 29-year-old male visitor who was body-boarding near Shipwreck’s Beach on Kauai this morning.

He was taken to receive medical care for his non-life threatening injuries.
“Shark Sighted” and “No Swimming” signs have been posted long the bay and are warning surfers and lifeguards are advising beach-goers to stay out of the water.

Last week brought heavy rains and flooding to the island of Kauai, and a brown water advisory was issued. The warning, however, did not include the area from Shipwreck’s to Sheraton Beach.

County lifeguards will determine on Friday if it is safe to reopen the beach.
