Gen Z and millennials are more likely to plan a vacation that involves what is becoming known as “passion travel” – a travel niche which focuses on trips designed to satisfy specific interests.

Rather than simply visiting a destination for its usual attractions, passion travel involves creating personalized itineraries that are specifically in line with what that traveler loves to do – where their passions lie.

This growing niche trend takes a detour from the “bucket list” model which lists destinations to visit before one passes. And because everyone’s passions are unique, the journey can involve anything from participating in beach cleaning to attending as many Taylor Swift concerts as possible within a certain time frame, to sampling specialty burgers throughout the town or city.

Food, Food, Glorious Food

One has to eat to live, but there are those who live to eat. If you are the latter, there is nothing better than exploring a destination’s food and drink culture though its restaurants and street food which has become more and more popular. There are also more participatory foodie things to do like cooking classes and wine tastings to satisfy the adventurous palate.

Throw Me in Nature

Some travelers just aren’t happy if they’re not sweating and grunting while they engage in more extreme activities like hiking and climbing or scuba diving and snorkeling. And depending on the season, it could be skiing and snowboarding or water skiing and hot air balloon riding.

Culture Me

This divine category pretty much encompasses everything from arts and music to festivals and historic places. For those who prefer more one-on-one experiences, many destinations offer travelers joining a local family for dinner at their home for authentic engagement in culture.

Make Me Feel Well

It could be an entire travel vacation set at a spa where one indulges in mud baths, massages, healthy food, and activities such as yoga, meditation, and walks in nature. Or it could be spinoffs during the vacation that focus on health and wellbeing such as a visit to take a soothing dip in a hot springs or a peaceful exploration of a functioning monastery.

Feed My Creativity

Most destination will provide museums, galleries, historical landmarks, and performances, exhibitions, and events to feed the artistic and creative soul. It is also worth looking into whether the chosen destination has interactive experiences such as painting in a group while sipping wine, throwing clay onto a potter’s wheel, for example.

Make it personally yours

Whatever your desire is, wherever your passion lies, travel is the best avenue to achieve meaningful and memorable experiences that resonate on a personal level. So go ahead and feed that passion.
