Vueling Airlines has announced its return to Budapest Airport, which marks the Spanish low-cost carrier’s first service from the Hungarian hub since the onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
The Spanish airline will operate six flights connecting Budapest and Bilbao, offering a unique travel option between the two cities during the holiday season. This seasonal route is scheduled to commence on December 5, 2024, and will continue until January 1, 2025.
Bilbao is a city in northern Spain, the tenth largest city in the country and the largest city in the province of Biscay and in the Basque Country as a whole. It is also the largest city proper in northern Spain.
Vueling will service the 1,782-kilometer route with its Airbus A320 aircraft, which accommodate 180 passengers. As there are currently no other airlines providing direct flights between Budapest and Bilbao, Vueling’s service presents a unique opportunity for travelers to experience the rich culture and famous Christmas markets of both destinations. This includes Budapest’s renowned market at Vörösmarty Square and the festive ambiance of Bilbao’s holiday market stalls, creating a convenient seasonal link for holiday travelers.
According to IATA data, indirect air traffic between Bilbao and Budapest has increased by 30% as of August this year, with Budapest anticipating over 15,000 connecting passengers in 2025, making Bilbao the largest unserved city-pair from Budapest in Spain.
