The Airlines Reporting Corp. (ARC) announced today that air ticket sales by US travel agencies for July 2024 reached $7.9 billion. This figure represents a 5% rise compared to both the previous year and the preceding month.
Additionally, the total number of passenger trips in July showed a recovery from June’s figures, with 24.1 million trips recorded, marking a 6% increase from June and a 10% increase from July 2023.
Results for July 2024 showed:
ARC Ticketing Total – Month-Over-Month Variance – Year-Over-Year Variance
Total Sales – $7.9 billion +5 % +5 %
Total Passenger Trips – 24.1 million +6 % +10 %
U.S. Domestic Trips – 15.4 million +9 % +12 %
International Trips – 8.7 million +2 % +6 %
Average Ticket Price – $523 -1 % -1 %
Steve Solomon, the chief commercial officer (CCO) at ARC, stated, “The anticipated decline in traveler demand is not evident in the sales figures from U.S. agencies as we enter the second half of the year, which is encouraging for both travel agencies and airlines. As leisure travel diminishes with the conclusion of summer, airlines are expected to rely on corporate travel to sustain the growth in passenger trips.”
In July 2024, New Distribution Capability (NDC) transactions accounted for 19.7% of ARC’s monthly transaction volume, reflecting a 55% increase compared to the previous year.
Over 950 travel agencies reported engaging in NDC transactions during this month.
