A statement from Secretary Noem on her confirmation:
“As the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, I will work every day to keep all Americans safe and secure. One of my top priorities is achieving President Trump’s mandate from the American people to secure our southern border and fix our broken immigration system.
“The Trump Administration will once again empower our brave men and women in law enforcement to do their jobs and remove criminal aliens and illegal gangs from our country. We will fully equip our intelligence and law enforcement to detect and prevent terror threats and deliver rapid assistance and disaster relief to Americans in crisis.
“I thank President Trump and the US Senate for trusting me. Together, we will ensure that the United States, once again, is a beacon of freedom, safety, and security for generations to come.”
Before her confirmation as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Secretary Noem served as South Dakota’s 33rd Governor and first ever female governor. A rancher, farmer, and small business owner, Noem served in the South Dakota legislature for years and was later elected as South Dakota’s sole member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
U.S. Travel CEO said
“We congratulate Kristi Noem on her appointment to lead the Department of Homeland Security. She steps into this role at a critical time—when the opportunity to improve both travel security and efficiency has never been more important.

As we prepare to showcase America and welcome the world for major events over the next four years, it is paramount that DHS is prepared for its public safety responsibility and its duty to facilitate the lawful travel of millions to and within the country.
“In February, U.S. Travel’s Commission on Seamless and Secure Travel will release a bold vision to secure, modernize and improve American travel. DHS is a critical partner in executing this vision. We are confident that Secretary Noem will serve as a strong, innovative leader, prioritizing the necessary resources and reforms to advance our shared priority to make the American travel experience the most secure and efficient in the world.”
