Jordan has always been a beacon of resilience, unity, and hope, even in the face of regional challenges. I’m so proud of my country, the “Jewel of the Middle East,” for its deep-rooted support of our Palestinian brothers and sisters while continuing to carry its own remarkable legacy forward.

Last week, I was privileged to attend the Dawn of Christianity Exhibit in Rome. This exhibit showcased Jordan’s priceless relics and their profound historical significance in the region’s religious heritage. It was a moment that filled me with immense pride, far exceeding my expectations, and reminded me of the rich and invaluable contributions Arab culture has made to the world.

I’m deeply inspired by Jordan’s unwavering dedication to peace, justice, and preserving our shared heritage. I’m grateful to renowned journalist Daoud Kuttab for his guidance and support in compiling the following words.

Congratulations to the Ministry of Tourism, the Jordan Tourism Board, Ambassador Lina Annab, and the entire team who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to bring this incredible exhibit to life. A special note of admiration also goes to Queen Rania of Jordan for her exhibit visit, highlighting its importance. I couldn’t be prouder of Jordan and my customized earrings from a talented friend, Luma, with Lumani Designs.

The “Jordan, Dawn of Christianity” exhibit in Rome has surpassed all expectations, offering a profound showcase of Jordan’s rich Christian heritage. This event is a powerful reminder that we are all ambassadors for the Kingdom, entrusted with sharing its history, values, and renowned hospitality with the world.

The exhibit, inaugurated in Rome, is a testament to Jordan’s significant contributions to early Christianity. It features over 90 rare artifacts, including mosaics and ancient Christian symbols, such as the fish symbol, considered one of the earliest representations of Christ.

This exhibition highlights Jordan’s historical significance and reinforces the nation’s ongoing commitment to promoting interfaith dialogue and understanding. Queen Rania’s recent meeting with Pope Francis at the Vatican further underscores this dedication. Their discussions centered around global peace, tolerance, and humanitarian efforts. Pope Francis commended Jordan for its pivotal role in fostering interfaith harmony in a region often challenged by conflict.

Jordan’s Christian legacy is deeply intertwined with its geography, housing significant religious sites that have witnessed pivotal moments in biblical history. “Bethany Beyond the Jordan,” recognized as the site of Jesus’ baptism, stands out as an essential pilgrimage location. This revered site, along with other significant Christian locations and relics, is showcased in the exhibition, allowing visitors to connect with the spiritual legacy that has thrived in Jordan for centuries.

The excitement surrounding the exhibition is palpable, drawing scholars, tourists, and Christian community members to explore and appreciate the rich tapestry of Jordan’s sacred history. This event is a revelation of Jordan’s contributions to Christianity and a celebration of its ongoing dedication to cultural and historical preservation.

The Jordan Tourism Board and the Ministry of Tourism deserve commendation for their unwavering commitment to bringing this exhibition to life. Their efforts to promote Jordan as a destination for religious pilgrimage and tourism play a crucial role in educating the global community about the country’s significant role in Christian history. Such initiatives are essential for broadening understanding and appreciation of cultural heritage, particularly in today’s world where comprehension of diverse histories fosters a more cohesive global community.

Moreover, the exhibition reminds us of the universality of shared values embedded in faith—compassion, understanding, and respect for one another. In a time when religious and cultural divisions often dominate headlines, events that promote unity and understanding through historical and spiritual connections are critically important. The “Dawn of Christianity” exhibit encapsulates this spirit, offering a platform for dialogue among all faiths and encouraging visitors to reflect on the importance of tolerance and peace.

Social media platforms have been abuzz with hashtags such as #VisitJordan, #BethanyBeyondTheJordan, and #JordanHeritage, inviting a wider audience to learn about this beautiful country and its historically significant treasures. By sharing experiences and knowledge, we can amplify the message of Jordan’s Christian legacy and its importance to global history.

Furthermore, Jordan’s legacy as the cradle of Christianity deserves recognition beyond the exhibition. Pilgrims, historians, and tourists must understand that Jordan is a living testament to the traditions and teachings that have shaped spiritual beliefs for millennia. The exhibit invites visitors to engage with Jordan’s past and encourages them to envision a future where faith transcends division. It truly represents the very concept of living stones.

As Jordan continues to play a vital role in promoting interfaith dialogue and cultural heritage, the global community must rally to support and recognize these efforts. Events like the “Dawn of Christianity” exhibit are not simply exhibitions; they are an affirmation of hope, a celebration of human connection through history, and an invitation to reflect on mankind’s shared journey.

The successful unveiling of the “Jordan, Dawn of Christianity” exhibit in Rome is a testament to the enduring legacy of faith, culture, and heritage. It reaffirms Jordan’s commitment to fostering global peace and mutual understanding, encouraging us to join in this noble pursuit. Let us embrace and celebrate our differences while cherishing the common threads that bind us together—threads woven through our shared histories, including Jordan’s irreplaceable contributions to Christianity. In doing so, we pave the way for a better, more united world.
