Strong Earthquake in San Diego

A 5.1 strong earthquake just shook San Diego, California, at 10.08 am local time today. The epicenter was in Julian, 35 miles NE of San Diego, and 120 miles SE of Los Angeles. It was first reported to be 6.7 strong, but downgraded by the USGS.

The quake was measured at 8 miles deep, and reverse 911 messages were triggered on mobile phones.

The quake was felt as far as Long Beach, CA.

The epicenter of today’s M 5.2 Earthquake near San Diego appears to be in an area with no faults mapped by the USGS. However, nearby geologic features include the Volcan Mountains and Earthquake Valley.
