Ontario International Airport celebrated its successes at the State of the Airport, which drew more than 600 regional and business leaders to the conference

Located in one of the country’s most rapidly growing regions, this year the ONT Airport will exceed 7 million passengers coming through, which is an increase by 75 percent since re-entry into private ownership six years ago. “ONT serves as an essential component of a vibrant regional economy,” said Board President of the OIAA Alan Wapner, which has continued its growth over 43 months consecutively. Atif Elkadi CEO at ONT said ONT was an important airport to the “new heart” of the Inland Empire, and Southern California region.

The agenda included a fireside chat with Andrew Watterson, COO of Southwest Airlines about new innovations, like its non-stop service to Baltimore/Washington market in 2025. Other upgrades supported by U.S Representatives and included the rehabilitation of their runways for $90 million and the enhancement of their terminals for $7 million. Others:

  • Upgrade U.S. Customs, which has enabled international flights to increase in volume.
  • In 1993, it partnered with SSP America to add dining and amenities.
  • Ranked no. 2 in customer satisfaction by J.D. Power for airports in California.
  • Examples of several industry accolades include ONT’s Customer Experience team, which won in excellence through the Airports Council International-North America.
