The Security Screening Checkpoint Expansion Project aims to enhance checkpoint capacity by adding two screening lanes in Terminal 2 and one in Terminal 4.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has allocated over $7 million to Ontario International Airport (ONT) for enhancements to security and terminal facilities. These improvements are essential for accommodating increased passenger traffic and ensuring the high-quality customer experience that travelers anticipate.

The Southern California gateway sought funding to redesign the existing security and checkpoint areas in Terminal 2 and Terminal 4 to accommodate additional screening lanes necessary for effectively managing the increased number of passengers opting for ONT.

The Security Screening Checkpoint Expansion Project aims to enhance checkpoint capacity by adding two screening lanes in Terminal 2 and one in Terminal 4. This expansion will allow officials to alleviate congestion and improve passenger throughput by as much as 15% during peak travel times. Additionally, the project encompasses the construction of new secure area exit corridors and enhancements to facilities for passengers with special needs.

“We express our gratitude to the FAA and the Biden-Harris Administration for acknowledging our requirements and investing in our international gateway. We also extend our appreciation to our congressional representatives, Reps. Pete Aguilar (33rd District), Norma Torres (35th District), and Ken Calvert (41st District), for their support of our application,” stated Alan D. Wapner, president of the Ontario International Airport Authority Board of Airport Commissioners.

Ontario International Airport ranks among the fastest-growing airports in the United States, currently experiencing a record-setting trajectory in passenger volume. It is essential that we enhance our terminal facilities to guarantee both passenger security and comfort while accommodating increasing numbers of travelers. The FAA grant will significantly aid us in achieving this objective.

The Inland Empire airport is projected to serve over 7 million passengers this year, marking the highest annual total since the airport was returned to local ownership in 2016.

This grant, amounting to $7,072,000, is provided through the FAA’s Airport Terminal Program, established by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
