Oman: Tourist inflow rises 12 percent

According to the report of the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), non-Omani Gulf residents topped the list in the month of February, reaching 54,000 visitors, accounting for 28.1 percent of the total visitors, followed by Indian visitors at 18,396 comprising 9.5 percent, German visitors at 17,976, and 14,888 Britons accounting for 9.3 percent and 7.7 percent respectively.

The number of visitors departing until the end of February was 834,000, a rise of 13.6 percent compared with the same period last year.

Departing Omani visitors accounted for 64.7 percent of the total outbound tourists during the month of February.

The number of visitors on board cruise ships that docked in ports of the Sultanate in February reached 27,600. Europeans accounted for 85.9 percent of the total visitors on board cruise ships with 23,725 visitors.

The German visitors 10,772 topped the European visitors, accounting for 39 percent followed by the Italian visitors 4,271 with 15.5 percent. The number of American visitors were 2,171, the Africans 1,381, Asians 139 and 194 Oceania visitors.

With regard to accommodation services, the 3-5 star hotel revenues during February amounted to RO 18,374,000 compared to RO 18,600,000 during the same period of 2014, a decline of 1.2 percent.

The number of hotel guests during the month of February amounted to 120,708 compared to 109,358 during the same period of 2014, an increase of 10.4 percent.

Occupancy in the abovementioned hotels reached 70.8 percent, compared to 73.4 percent during February 2014, a drop of 3.5 percent.

Europeans accounted for the largest number of hotel guests during the month of February, with 49,926, Omanis 33,073, Asians 13,083, other Gulf countries 8,455 guests.

Other Arab hotel guests were 4,377, Americans 4,292, Oceania guests by 1,207.
