Turkish Airlines announced the addition of Sydney, Australia’s largest city, to its comprehensive flight network. This marks the airline’s second venture into the continent and designates Sydney as the first Australian city to offer nonstop flights in the future. Scheduled to commence on December 4, 2024, the İstanbul – Sydney route will operate four times weekly via Kuala Lumpur, utilizing Airbus A350-900 aircraft.

This new service not only enhances Turkish Airlines‘ presence in this emerging continent but also reinforces the relationship between Türkiye and Australia, fostering growth in tourism, trade, and cultural exchange.

The presence of over 15,000 Turkish-born Australians in New South Wales, coupled with Türkiye’s status as a leading destination for Australian travelers, assures us of robust support for this service. The announcement made today holds significant importance for the economies of Sydney and New South Wales, highlighting the crucial role of international aviation in bolstering our visitor economy.

Regarding the recent expansion of the global airline’s flight network, Prof. Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines, remarked: “We are pleased to announce the introduction of our Sydney route, marking a significant milestone for us on the continent. This new service not only broadens our flight network but also reinforces our dedication to maintaining a strong presence in Australia, as we provide our passengers with access to new opportunities and experiences, all while enjoying the renowned comfort and hospitality of Turkish Airlines. Furthermore, Sydney will be our inaugural destination in Australia to offer non-stop flights once we acquire the aircraft capable of completing the journey in a single leg.”

In regard to the recent development, Minister for Jobs and Tourism John Graham expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I am delighted that Turkish Airlines is making its inaugural landing in Sydney, thereby granting European travelers direct access to our state’s exceptional visitor offerings. The NSW Government has collaborated closely with both Sydney Airport and Turkish Airlines to establish this new service. Sydney serves as Australia’s gateway, and the support for this new route presents significant opportunities for the expansion of the state’s tourism economy.”

Scott Charlton, CEO of Sydney Airport, remarked, “The introduction of direct flights represents a pivotal advancement for travel to Europe, providing passengers with effortless access to numerous destinations from Turkish Airlines’ hub in Istanbul. We take pride in Turkish Airlines’ inaugural non-stop service to Sydney and New South Wales, which serves as a robust affirmation of the attractions our city and state have to offer. Additionally, travelers will have the opportunity to experience Turkish Airlines’ award-winning service from Sydney to Istanbul via Kuala Lumpur starting in December 2024.”
