FlySAX and Fly540 are the first two airlines to return to the recently upgraded airfield in Kakamega with scheduled operations, with the first commercial flight operated yesterday – following a formal celebratory launch flight on the 01st of July. Kakamega is located in Western Kenya and has emerged as both a regional commercial centre as well as a focal point for tourists visiting the Kakamega Forest.
FlySAX is operating every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday out of Wilson Airport while Fly540 will operate flights out of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport every Saturday and Sunday.
Don Smith, CEO of the two airlines, had this to say when making the announcement: ‘The launch of this route reflects the ongoing commitment of both airlines to improving the transport infrastructure in and around Kenya. We are delighted that we can provide a near-daily service to this destination. In addition, with the expansion of the flight network, it marks the transition to the next stage in the development of Fly540. As a result, we are excited about our future prospects and to continuing to enhance passenger choice as the local economies continue to grow’.
