Massive 6.9 Earthquake in Cuba and felt in Jamaica

Two unusually strong earthquakes felt in Cuba and Jamaica Sunday morning, the strongest at around 11.49  am local time.

USGS reported a massive 6.9 earthquake off Southern Cuba facing Jamaica at 11.49 am local time on Sunday. A tsunami warning was issued for Southern Cuba.

It followed a 6.5 quake measured earlier .

According to Jamaicas minister of tourism Hob Edmund Bartlett no reports of damages or injuries are reported in Jamaica, but the situation in southern Cuba is unknown .

The quake was felt also in Haiti, Bahamas and the Florida Keys. Even readers in Miami say buildings were shaking .

Photos of collapsed buildings south of Santago de Cuba were posted to X.

A 6.9 strong earthquake in the Caribbean has the potential to generate tsunamis but according to Tsubami.gov no such danger is currently in place for any US or Puertp Rico / Virgin Island coasts.
