Among six people murdered last night at the popular tourism hotel,the Grand Hyatt Erawan in Bangkok, two were Americans, and 4 Vietnamese.
The cause is under investigation by police.
According to journalists currently at the hotel, the 6 ethnic Vietnamese were found in their room: Dead and poisoned.
The Grand Hyatt Erawan, the hotel is next to Central World, one of the largest shopping malls in the Thai Capital city.
Cyanide poisoning was the not yet officially confirmed murder weapon.
It’s not clear if anything that could have happened physically at this hotel is related to the deaths. Since all dead were of Vietnamese ethnic descent, a regular attack on tourists cannot be confirmed.
Thailand is usually a very safe country for visitors, and the hotel is well protected with an excellent security system, according to this author, who personally stayed at the property many times and over many years.
Earlier reports talked about the 6 dead who were shot. eTurboNews was unable to reach Hyatt for any comments.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Thiti Sangsawang, head of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, and Pol. Maj. Gen.Noppasil Poolsawat, the bureau is investigating.
According to police, the investigation into the deaths of all six individuals has not yet determined if the incident was related to murder over a business deal, revenge, or involvement with a strange cult.
The bodies of five individuals were discovered in the same room where they were scheduled to check out today, each with their bags packed, and there were no indications of a struggle. The body of the six person was discover outside of the room.
The six individuals have been identified as the following:
- Sherine Chong, 56, an American citizen, arrived in Thailand at Suvarnabhumi Airport on July 5, 2024, with permission to stay until August 3, 2024, and has visited the country five times.
- Mr. Hung Dang Van, 55, an American citizen, arrived in Thailand at Suvarnabhumi Airport on July 7, 2024, with permission to stay until August 5, 2024, and has visited once before.
- Ms. Thi Nguyen Phuong Lan, 47, of Vietnamese nationality, arrived in Thailand at Suvarnabhumi Airport on July 4, 2024, with permission to stay until August 2, 2024, and has visited 17 times.
- Mr. Hong Pham Thanh, 49, of Vietnamese nationality, arrived in Thailand at Suvarnabhumi Airport on July 12, 2024, with permission to stay until August 10, 2024, and has visited once before.
- Mr. Dinh Tran Phu, 37, of Vietnamese nationality, arrived in Thailand at Suvarnabhumi Airport on July 12, 2024, with permission to stay until August 10, 2024, and has visited 11 times.
- Ms. Thi Nguyen Phuong, 46, of Vietnamese nationality, arrived in Thailand at Suvarnabhumi Airport on July 12, 2024, with permission to stay until August 10, 2024, and has visited three times.
The authorities suspect that the perpetrator is still on the loose within the hotel premises.
In 2015 at the Erawan Shrine bombing in in Bangkok, tourism to Thailand went down 10% before recovering. The Shrine is located in front of the Hyatt Erawan Hotel.
