Malaysia Airlines Takes Delivery of Its First Airbus A330-900

Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the parent organization of Malaysia’s national carrier, Malaysia Airlines, celebrated the delivery of its first Airbus A330-900 (A330neo) aircraft today during a launch ceremony at Hangar 6, MAB Engineering Complex. This delivery represents a significant advancement in MAG’s fleet modernization initiative, reinforcing its dedication to improving operational efficiency and offering passengers an enhanced level of comfort and service.

The aircraft, designated 9M-MNG, was officially unveiled by Loke Siew Fook, the Minister of Transport Malaysia, alongside Dato’ Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir, Managing Director of Khazanah Nasional Berhad, MAG’s principal shareholder, and Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of MAG. The aircraft is scheduled to undertake its inaugural flight to Melbourne on flight MH149 later this evening at 10:30 PM local time and will progressively serve long-haul routes throughout Australasia, among other destinations.

The A330neo represents the newest addition to MAG’s expanding fleet, with a commitment to receive a total of 20 aircraft by 2028, as outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) established with Airbus, Rolls-Royce, and Avolon in August 2022.
