Latvia’s airBaltic has announced an incremental order for an additional 10 A220-300 aircraft. This marks the airline’s fourth reorder, bringing its total firm order to 90 A220 aircraft. Currently, airBaltic operates a robust fleet of nearly 50 A220-300s, making it the largest A220 customer in Europe and the foremost operator of the A220-300 globally.
The Latvian flag carrier has a rich history with the Airbus A220-300, having been the launch customer in 2016. Since 2020, the airline has maintained an exclusive fleet of A220 aircraft. With a firm commitment to 90 A220-300s, airBaltic solidifies its status as the leading A220 customer in Europe.
Martin Gauss, the President and CEO of airBaltic, stated: “For the first time in our company’s history, airBaltic intends to operate a fleet nearing 100 A220-300 aircraft. The exercise of these options represents a significant advancement for us. Over the years, this aircraft model has demonstrated its operational efficiency and value, serving as the foundation of our operations and contributing significantly to airBaltic’s international success. By exercising these options, we are reinforcing our steadfast commitment and confidence in the A220 Program, and we eagerly anticipate the expansion of our fleet in the coming years.”
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Sales for Airbus Commercial Aircraft, expressed his gratitude regarding airBaltic’s decision to place its fourth follow-up order. He stated, “This recent agreement from Latvia’s national airline serves as a robust affirmation of the exceptional value and operational advantages provided by our latest generation aircraft. The A220 stands out as the most efficient aircraft within its size category, featuring a spacious cabin that consistently achieves the highest Net Promoter Scores from passengers, regardless of its operational location, along with the capability to fly non-stop to any destination within the carrier’s existing network and beyond.”
The A220 represents the most advanced airliner in its segment, accommodating between 120 to 150 passengers on journeys of up to 3,600 nautical miles (6,700 km). It boasts the largest cabin, seats, and windows in its class, thereby ensuring an unparalleled level of comfort.
