The Order of Jamaica is the fifth of the six orders in the Jamaican honors system and was established in 1969. It is considered the equivalent of a knighthood in the British honors system. Membership in the Order can be conferred upon any Jamaican citizen of outstanding distinction.
The Honorable Dr. Edmund Bartlett was bestowed with the honor for his invaluable contribution to the field of tourism, as well as for promoting human resource development, sustainability and climate resilience, and for 40 years of the public service, including over 38 years of representational politics and 21 years as a government minister.

The Hon. Edmund Bartlett is a dynamic, results-oriented leader, who has many times over been recognized for his wide-ranging expertise and accomplishments in both tourism and politics.
It is his nature to be an innovator and a visionary, attributes which have underscored Mr. Bartlett’s decades of successful service to the nation. Whether providing strategic guidance to his portfolio Ministry or overseeing the overall development of Jamaica’s tourism industry, he always seeks to add value and create opportunities.
Under his leadership, the Hon. Minister founded the Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre (GTRCMC) in 2018. This vital and important international Think-Tank is headquartered in Jamaica, with offices in Africa, Canada, and the Middle East.
The GTRCMC helps tourism stakeholders worldwide prepare for, manage, and recover from a crisis. This is accomplished through providing services such as training, crisis communications, policy advice, project management, event planning, monitoring, evaluation, research, and data analytics. The thematic focus of the GTRCMC includes climate resilience, security and cybersecurity resilience, digital transformation and resilience, entrepreneurial resilience, and pandemic resilience.
