According to eyewitness reports from an 18-year-old youth with thousands of other late partygoers on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, Louisianna, Bourbon Street looked like a war zone amid a giant New Year’s party welcoming 2025.
A 42-year-old driver from Houston, Texas, by the name of Shamsud Din Jabbar, allegedly drove a rental truck with the ISIS flag mounted. He is a US citizen. The suspect had rented the truck from a private party using the Turu app, a tool to rent cars from private owners.
It was said he worked for a car dealership in Houston.
The suspect was shot by law enforcement after killing 10 people and injuring 35 part goers in New Orleans. Two police officers were shot as well but are in stable condition.
An FBI special agent on the scene confirmed an explosive device was found — though it had not yet been determined to be viable.
The source said Jabbar was carrying an ISIS flag in the truck, and authorities have said he was dressed in military gear.
Law enforcement said they are investigating the possibility that the attack involved multiple suspects. They are looking into whether a different suspect rented the truck used in the attack.
And while many were killed and injured on Bourbon Street, dozens of others were evacuated from the St. Roch area as well. A fire broke out that law enforcement officials said was connected to the attack at an Airbnb.
