Several major international airlines, including British Airways, Polish LOT and Azerbaijan Airlines, announced that they are suspending flights to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport due to the flareup of the hostilities between the Jewish state and Lebanon-based Hezbollah terror group.
A representative for Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) stated that Azerbaijan’s national flag carrier is halting flights between Baku and Tel Aviv “due to recent developments and security issues in Israel.”
“The safety of our flights and passengers is the highest priority for AZAL,” the airline stated.
This decision aligns with those of other airlines that have also suspended services in response to escalating violence between Israel and Hezbollah, and the airline will provide updates as the situation develops, AZAL spokesperson added.
Poland’s national carrier, LOT Polish Airlines, has also canceled Tel Aviv flights scheduled for this week.
“In light of the current circumstances, we are continuously assessing the safety of LOT Polish Airlines’ operations,” the airline stated in a release on its website.
UK’s British Airways (BA) has also announced an additional suspension of its Tel Aviv flights.
“We have been consistently assessing the circumstances in the Middle East and have made the operational decision to cancel our flights to and from Tel Aviv through Thursday, 26 September. The safety of our passengers remains our highest priority, and we are reaching out to customers to inform them of their travel alternatives,” British Airways announced in its official statement.
Air India, the national airline of India, has also temporarily halted all scheduled flights to and from Tel Aviv until further notice.
Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific has cancelled all its flights to Tel Aviv until March 27, 2025.
The United States Delta Air Lines has suspended its flights between New York and Tel Aviv until December 31.
According to a spokesperson, the UK low-cost carrier easyJet ceased operations to and from Tel Aviv in April and plans to resume flights on March 30, 2025.
IAG-owned Spanish low-cost airline Vueling has suspended its operations to Tel Aviv until January 12, 2025.
The German Lufthansa Airline Group announced the suspension of all flights to and from Tel Aviv and Tehran until October 14, while services to Beirut will remain halted until October 26.
Ryanair, Europe’s largest low-cost airline, has cancelled its flights to and from Tel Aviv until October 26, attributing the decision to “operational restrictions.”
Meanwhile, the United Kingdom has recommended that all British air carriers refrain from entering Lebanese airspace from August 8 to November 4, citing a “potential risk to aviation due to military activity.”
