IATA: Record Global Air Cargo Demand in 2024

According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) newly published data regarding the global air cargo market performance for the entirety of 2024, as well as for December 2024, demand, as measured in cargo ton-kilometers (CTK), experienced an increase of 11.3% (12.2% for international operations) in comparison to 2023. This demand surpassed the record levels established in 2021.

In terms of capacity for the full year 2024, measured in available cargo ton-kilometers (ACTK), there was a rise of 7.4% relative to 2023 (9.6% for international operations).

The average yields for the full year were 1.6% lower than those of 2023, yet they remained 39% higher than the figures recorded in 2019.

December 2024 concluded the year with sustained strong performance. Global demand was 6.1% higher than in December 2023 (7.0% for international operations). Additionally, global capacity was 3.7% above the levels of December 2023 (5.2% for international operations). Cargo yields in December were 6.6% greater than those of December 2023 and 53.4% higher than in December 2019.
