Hong Kong Airlines has declared its intention to resume non-stop flights between Hong Kong and Gold Coast, commencing on 17 January 2025. This seasonal service will operate from 17 January to 15 February 2025, providing four flights per week for a duration of five weeks during the Chinese Lunar New Year festivities, with an estimated capacity of around 6,000 seats on A330 wide-body aircraft.

Jeff Sun, Chairman of Hong Kong Airlines, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We are pleased to be the inaugural Hong Kong airline to reintroduce this much-awaited Australian route for our travelers. The commencement of this route signifies our initial move back into the long-haul sector as we progressively add more aircraft to facilitate the growth of our route network. Additionally, we are actively investigating the possibility of re-entering the North American market, with potential routes to Vancouver, Toronto, Los Angeles, and Seattle being evaluated, thereby offering our passengers a broader range of international travel options.”

“We anticipate that the Gold Coast will emerge as a favored destination for our travelers, not only from Hong Kong but also from our broad network across Greater China. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience the delightful climate, breathtaking coastline, and thrilling activities that Queensland provides, thereby enhancing the cultural, tourism, and business connections between these areas.”

Amelia Evans, the Chief Executive Officer of Queensland Airports Limited, stated that the reestablishment of connections with Hong Kong represents a significant advancement in the international recovery efforts, emphasizing that China has consistently been an essential market for visitors to both the Gold Coast and Queensland as a whole.

Additionally, Michael Healy MP, the Queensland Minister for Tourism and Sport, remarked that the inaugural flight from Gold Coast Airport to Hong Kong in six years will enhance South-East Queensland’s appeal to a greater number of Asian tourists, who are known to appreciate Queensland’s exceptional lifestyle and premier holiday offerings.

Mayor Tom Tate of the City of Gold Coast remarked, “Tourism is an integral part of our city’s identity, and we eagerly anticipate the return of visitors through Hong Kong Airlines to explore all that the Gold Coast has to offer.”

John Warn, CEO of Experience Gold Coast, stated that the introduction of this new service would significantly enhance international visitation as the city works to recover its visitor numbers and spending from important and emerging international markets, particularly Greater China.
