Homestay Holidays in Gabon Made Easy

Gabon

Gabon is known for its environmental and biodiversity preservation policies and has made eco-tourism a national priority. However, the country still lacks tourism infrastructure. “Our goal is to build more sustainable villages by allowing indigenous communities to be the main actors.” This is the voice for Gabon Community Homestay, a sustainable tourism initiative in this West African country.

Gabon Community Homestay, a new initiative by the local community cooperative CAIMOA and Gabon EcoSafaris, launched its first website:

The website allows travelers to explore and book unique beaches, nature, and community experiences in Gabon, a destination that remains largely untouched by mass tourism.

The Gabon Community Homestay project aims to promote sustainable and immersive travel experiences by providing tourists with opportunities to connect with local communities, experience authentic cultural immersion, and support sustainable tourism development.

The project is backed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Program, ensuring its commitment to sustainable growth and community empowerment.

Gabon Community Homestay is fully owned by CAIMOA, with 100% of the revenues generated directly benefiting local communities for the development of community-driven activities that greatly contribute to the sustainable development of villages, and administrative costs.

CAIMOA is a community Cooperative / Association dedicated to improving the well-being of Indigenous communities on their land while restoring and sustaining Gabon’s unique ecosystems for future generations.

Gabon Community Homestay’s operations are supported through a technical and management services agreement with Gabon EcoSafaris to deliver excellent customer service while building the capacity of indigenous communities.

The new website was created by the talented team at KINGSFARI – Zambia, a group of skilled youth trained in digital marketing and web development by the Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI).

Supported by My Local Passion and Value Through Passion (VTP), KINGSFARI specializes in creating affordable websites that connect local tourism experiences and products to a global audience.

This project marked the first paid assignment for the KINGSFARI team, demonstrating their expertise and commitment to enhancing digital access for tourism initiatives in Africa.

Call for Further Support and Collaboration

With the support of UNDP and the GEF Small Grants Program, the Gabon Community Homestay is on a mission to expand its impact.

The project is actively seeking additional funding and partnerships to scale up its operations, enhance community development, and provide more immersive and sustainable travel experiences in Gabon. Likewise, KINGSFARI, My Local Passion, and Value Through Passion are open to collaborating with like-minded organizations and stakeholders to further their mission of supporting local businesses through digital empowerment.

Juergen Steinmetz, Chairman of the World Tourism Network, who is also the founding Chairman of the African Tourism Board applauded Gabon Community Homestay for its effort in leading this initiative assisting Gabon in its development of a tourism industry, and including entrepreneurs and local communities to benefit.
