From Iran: Why Do We Need Peace and Tourism?

Why Iranians and Americans are friends beyond conflicts

This content was provided by Talebi, a known friend from Tehran serving the travel and tourism professionals in his country for many years. in response to a request by the World Tourism Network on the important subject of Peace and Tourism. eTurboNews will cover a broad spectrum of contributions by leaders and travel industry visionaries from around the globe with limited editing. All published contributions will serve as the base for this ongoing discussion we intend to take forward into the New Year.

Taleb shared: I have many ideas on peace and tourism, and I am inspired by the ideas you and Louis D’Amore left in 2008 when you (Juergen Steinmetz) spoke at the Islamic Hall of The People on this subject.

eTurboNews was the only Western company exhibiting at our handicraft-tourism show at our Olympic training center right after the terrible 9/11 terror attack on New York. This was brave and raised so much hope for peace through tourism.

I often now ask why we need peace. Why- and for what reason?
What would happen without peace, and what would result from the lack of peace?

The answer is simple: Economic, social, and military crises and war. I feel guilty because we were too weak to understand and teach our tourism industry the value of peace through tourism.

IIP Founder Louis Amore addressed the Hall of the People in Teheran on this 2008 eTurboNews tour to Iran.

Now, my family lives in fear, and my beloved daughter and granddaughter had to resettle abroad. Let us try harder to make peace and tourism a reality for our dear country and the world.
