A recent study has identified the ten premier locations in London for culinary enthusiasts, with Westminster ranking first.
The surge in tourism in London has undoubtedly spurred growth within its hospitality sector. In 2023, the city welcomed 38 million visitors, with projections indicating a further increase in the coming year. London is a remarkably diverse metropolis, where approximately 300 languages are spoken, fostering a vibrant hospitality landscape that allows culinary enthusiasts to experience a variety of cultures and traditions.
Experts in travel conducted an analysis of London’s foodie scene using Bing Maps to determine which city neighborhoods provide the highest density of restaurants and dining establishments per 100,000 residents.
Each location received a score out of ten, reflecting the variety of food options available, and the rankings were established based on the areas with the highest scores.
Westminster leads the rankings with a score of 10 for its culinary offerings. This borough, renowned for London’s iconic Chinatown, features an impressive average of 3,838.44 restaurants for every 100,000 inhabitants.
In second place is Camden, achieving a score of 9.25. The area is highlighted by Camden Market, which presents a wide variety of food choices, resulting in an average of 1,850.37 dining establishments per 100,000 residents.
Kensington and Chelsea follows in third position with a score of 8.78. This West London borough boasts an average of 1,461.72 restaurants per 100,000 individuals, including prestigious Michelin-starred venues such as Restaurant Gordon Ramsay.
Islington ranks fourth, earning a score of 8.26. This vibrant North London district is celebrated for its independent dining establishments, with an average of 1,187.45 eateries per 100,000 people.
Hammersmith and Fulham, along with Tower Hamlets, share the fifth position with a score of 7.89. Both districts exhibit similar scores, attributed to their averages of 1,050.22 and 1,050.04 restaurants per 100,000 residents, respectively.
In sixth place is Hackney, which has a score of 7.70. This area, once an industrial center, now features an average of 992.09 dining establishments per 100,000 inhabitants, reflecting its recent cultural revitalization.
Southwark occupies the seventh position with a score of 7.42. Located on the southern bank of the River Thames, Southwark offers a variety of dining options, including the well-known Borough Food Market, with an average of 919.14 restaurants per 100,000 individuals.
Lambeth ranks eighth, achieving a score of 6.78. This borough, known for the Southbank Food Market, has an average of 786.78 eateries per 100,000 residents.
Wandsworth ranks ninth with a score of 6.47. This South London borough, known for its rich brewing heritage, currently features 735.15 restaurants for every 100,000 residents.
Haringey occupies the tenth position, achieving a score of 6.18. This North London borough, which has seen growth in its hospitality sector, offers 693.22 dining establishments per 100,000 inhabitants.
