Finnair is commemorating the onset of Finland’s autumn season, known as Ruska, which, with the arrival of longer nights, also marks the beginning of the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) season.
The year 2025 is anticipated to showcase the most remarkable Northern Lights in approximately two decades, attributed to heightened solar flares that will result in a more vivid and frequent display. This winter is particularly opportune for witnessing this extraordinary phenomenon, as the sun will reach its solar maximum—an 11-year cycle—during this period.
Finnish Lapland serves as an ideal destination for Celestial Tourism, boasting around 200 days each year when the Aurora Borealis can be observed, commencing in September.
As the seasons transition, the forests of the nation adopt the hues characteristic of Arctic Autumn. In September, the landscape shifts from vibrant green to extensive stretches of yellow, orange, and red, resulting in a breathtaking autumnal vista. This season also presents an ideal opportunity to observe Finland’s diverse wildlife, and venturing into the natural surroundings will reveal to visitors why Finland has been recognized as the ‘World’s Happiest Country’ for the seventh consecutive year.
With its updated winter schedule, the Official Airline of Santa Claus will provide a number of connections through Helsinki to its four sought-after destinations in Finnish Lapland: Ivalo, Kittilä, Kuusamo, and Rovaniemi, the beloved Hometown of Santa Claus.
